Message from Coach Charlie

Subject: A chance to help those who help

Dear Friends and Alumni of USC,

I am writing to you to let you know of the many changes over the past few years.  USC is doing great!  We have started a group at the Twinsburg Recreation Center which is thriving, much to the delight of the Twinsburg High School, the summer rec. team and the Rec. Center itself.  Our group at Orange High School continues to produce some of the best young swimmers in the district and feeds the Orange Middle and High Schools as well as many other of the 35+ other High Schools that are represented in our ranks.

Starting the 1st of April 2010 USC moved from our long-time home at University School in Hunting Valley to the brand new, state of the art facility at Gilmour Academy.  The pool has eight lanes, tons of natural light and a UV sanitation system that means there are only trace amounts of Chlorine in the water. Gilmour has welcomed USC with open arms and the relationship between the school and the swim club strengthens and stabilizes the entire aquatics program as well as our ability to grow and continue to raise the level of competitive swimming in Northeast Ohio.  Our future is as bright as it has ever been and with access to 3 great facilities, we are poised for even greater things.

In the past year we also finalized our incorporation as a 501c3 non profit organization and as such, I am also writing to ask for your help as we strive to take USC to the next level.  With access to great facilities and generous pool space and time, we can now begin to expand our program offering and improve our ability to attract, retain and help more and more swimmers in their own quest to reach their potential.  We aspire to start projects big and small such as:

  • Purchase a $17,000 piece of equipment that will change how we do stroke work and help reduce the chances of injury

  • Hire a dedicated dry-land and strengthening coach to promote injury prevention

  • Lower our fees to make swimming affordable to more people

  • Help pay for embroidery on coach and National Team apparel

  • Subsidizing our annual picnic at the Freedlander Meet (which has become our alumni weekend function and has never failed to produce great memories Freedlander weekend this year is July 9-11 and the picnic will be on the 10th right after the last relay. I hope to see many of you there.)

Anything you can do to help ensure that future generations of USC swimmers will have fond memories like I hope you have is greatly appreciated.

With your help USC can continue to and positively shape the lives of swimmers in Northeast Ohio.

In sincere appreciation,

Charlie

PS. Please feel free to forward this to friends and family who may be willing to support something you believe in and have benefited from. I apologize if you receive this more than once - I am sending from my account as well as through out on line registration. Thank you again…
